My picture 'Stop, Check, Turn and Double Back' has been selected for the final 50 exhibition of The British Art Prize 2024, a competition run by Artists and Illustrators Magazine. Its a drawing of Tib Lane in Manchester. You can vote for it in ‘the peoples choice’ award. It will be in the finalists exhibition at the Oxo Tower 4th-8th December. The picture measures 34x54cm. For compositional reasons I have removed all people, umbrellas, and some cars, also reshuffled various lights and windows. This is the third drawing in what seems to be becoming my 'Manchester at Night' series, with more to follow. I drew this on illustration board with Caran D'Ache Prismalo pencils, using four colours, Black, Charcoal (which is actually more of a dark sepia), Indigo Blue and Light Ochre. It took me a few months to do this one, working on and off. It comes from being back in the city last year, I went to Manchester Art Gallery and was inspired by the Pierre Adolphe Valette paintings to do some more pictures of the city, but where as he was great at reducing images down and losing detail, I am not! So this drawing looks nothing like a Valette even though he inspired it!
